Mendham Township Committeewoman enters race for countywide office

Mendham Township Committeewoman Sarah Neibart will seek the Republican nomination for the Morris County Board of Commissioners.

Neibart will compete for the GOP organization line in a race for three seats – one of them being vacated by Kathy DeFilippo, a two term incumbent who is not seeking re-election.

“As a County Commissioner I will bring the perspective of a new generation and a proven record of leadership and community service,” she said.

A volunteer firefighter, Neibart was the top vote-getter last November when she sought re-election in Mendham Township.  She has served on the township committee since 2018 and was mayor for the last two years.

“As a lifelong Morris County resident and active community first responder, I could not be more excited to run for Morris County Commissioner,” Neibart said.  “Not only have I never voted for a tax increase, but we actually cut taxes in Mendham Township when I was Mayor.  It’s that kind of taxpayer-first, conservative policies and results that I will bring to the Board of Commissioners.”

Two incumbents, Douglas Cabana and Tom Mastrangelo, are seeking re-election on a ticket with Pequannock Councilwoman Melissa Florance-Lynch.

The 29-year-old Neibart is the founder of Citizens for Accountable Taxation, a non-profit aimed at educating New Jerseyans about high taxes in the state.  She is also the deputy coordinator of the Mendham Office of Emergency Management and has worked on multiple political campaigns at the national, state and local levels.

Morris County Republicans have not lost a race for countywide office since 1973, when Democrat Douglas Romaine won a freeholder seat in the Watergate wave election.
